This product review is months late. I don’t have much excuse other than the fact that I forgot about it for months. Whoops. I had already written it up and just was waiting to do a final once over and never got around to it. Yikes.
I suppose this isn’t really so much of a product review as a service review but I didn’t know what else to call it.
A while back I was contacted by a new company that had started up in the US to cater to those with food allergies named Tasterie. Their offering included monthly food delivery boxes full of goodies that were suitable for varying dietary restrictions.
When they originally communicated to me they had a vegan box and a gluten-free box but not one that was suitable for both diets. I said I’d try a vegan one and poor Levi would have to miss out.
A little time passed and I hadn’t heard anything but then one day I came home to a parcel sitting at my kitchen table. From Tasterie.com! And imagine my surprise when it was not only vegan but it was both gluten-free and vegan! This was exciting. In the time that had passed they’d come up with a new gluten-free and vegan box option.
It looked like this.
And it was filled with all these goodies.
This gluten-free vegan Tasterie box would be a typical parcel that a subscriber would receive on a monthly basis for $20. There are no additional shipping charges. That’s pretty impressive for $20.
The majority of types of foods in the Tasterie box were snack foods. The two baking mixes were awesome to receive. There was also a sample size of Jovial pasta, which I’d been searching for here in Saskatoon without success. I was excited to try that, though it was a teeny tiny package.
Overall I think the Tasterie box contains enough real food products of value that it’s definitely worth the $20 cost.
But … I do have one little thing to nitpick about. The sample box that was sent to me was the Signature Box. They also do a Snack Box. In the interest of sharing my honest opinions here, I just wish there was a bit less snack food in the Signature Box and maybe more of a regular sized package of Jovial pasta next time.
Okay so that’s one tiny little thing on an otherwise really decent product.
I see this being a great service to those who have family members recently diagnosed with a food allergy/intolerance. It’ll be a good way to educate people on what products are available and they may start to recognize labels and find them in their own grocery stores. Another great use for these boxes that I see is for those who live in more remote areas without grocery stores that carry healthy gluten-free and vegan options to have access to this food right on their doorstep.
An important thing to note: Though I am located in Canada and they sent me a sample box to test out, they do not actually ship to Canada currently. So all my fellow Canucks will have to wait until they offer it in the future.
And now it’s your turn to enjoy Tasterie.com!
