{product review + promo} Snacks from Betty Lou’s

A little while back I was contacted by the folks at Betty Lou’s Inc. to see if I’d be interested in sampling some of their gluten-free and vegan products. I’m always on the lookout for new products that are not only vegan/gluten-free but which are also healthier than the typical snack foods out there.

When I got home from work after a particularly hectic Monday way back in October or November I found the package sitting on my step. Levi opened up the parcel and instantly said ‘Oh, this is going to be good!’

And he’s right. It was good.

The Goods

In the parcel we received three different samples of their gluten-free fruit bars – Strawberry, Apple Cinnamon and Cherry. I would say these resembled a Nutri-Grain bar in texture but the flavor was much superior. The fact that it was gluten-free and vegan was actually kind of impressive. Like, I’d totally buy these … and often!

There were three types of ‘nut butter balls’ too. Cashew-Pecan, Spirulina and Almond Butter. These were pretty tasty. My favorite part of these is the crispy bits of brown rice cereal. I just love that extra crispiness. My favorite flavor was the Spirulina one.

Wait, there’s more! We received three ‘Organic Just Great Stuff’ bars – Organic Superberry Acai, Organic Fruit and Veggie and Organic Cacao Acai. These were actually really good. I didn’t find them overly sweet and there was some interesting textures added in that were unexpected – in a good way. I don’t think Levi cared for these as much as he enjoyed the other goodies, but that was fine – more for me! I wish they had sent the Chocolate Dream Greens bar because it sounds awesome. Kale and chocolate! Heck yes.

And finally we received Powdered Peanut Butter. This is one of their newer products and I had never heard of the concept of powdered peanut butter before. I was eager to try it but unfortunately the packets got misplaced before I could. I blame our ongoing kitchen renovation and the same black hole that causes socks to go missing in the dryer. I hope that I’ll have a chance to give their powdered peanut butter a try soon.

    Hey Megan it’s me. I wanted to say lately I’ve been having some candida problems. So I’m trying a non glutten, sugar free(no fruit , only lemons and no sweet veggies, ie tomatoes, yams), dairy free, meat free diet, (for the next few months at least) I wanted to ask have you done any recipes with these restrictions? I’m having a hard time thinking of some creative dishes. Any help would be awesome. I know that you’re the one person that might be able to help me out.

      Hey! Sorry to hear you’re not feeling well. :( No beans! No legumes! I feel for you. I guess I’ll need to start figuring out some recipes to help you out. Meantime, I know of a blog that has lots of anti-candida diet recipes, sugar-free and dairy-free, among other things. It’s The Tasty Alternative: http://www.thetastyalternative.com/p/recipes.html Those recipes may help you get some ideas for now. I’m totally up for the challenge though so I’ll get to experimenting and let you know what I come up with. I hope you start to feel better soon. xo
